Executive Summary

The AcyMailing – An Ultimate Newsletter Plugin and Marketing Automation Solution for WordPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authorization bypass in all versions up to, and including, 10.11.1. This is due to the plugin not properly verifying that a user is authorized to perform an action. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to overwrite the BCC field of the acy_notification_cms notification template, causing subsequent WordPress password-reset emails — including those targeting administrator accounts — to be silently copied to an attacker-controlled address, enabling account takeover via the captured reset link. Successful exploitation requires the site administrator to have enabled the "Send website emails with AcyMailing" option, which routes WordPress core notification emails through AcyMailing's templating system. CVSS Score: 8.8 CWE: CWE-269

Decision: Validate relevance and exposure using the cited source and internal evidence before treating this record as an incident, confirmed compromise, or customer-specific finding.

Technical Analysis

The AcyMailing – An Ultimate Newsletter Plugin and Marketing Automation Solution for WordPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authorization bypass in all versions up to, and including, 10.11.1. Vulnerability class: Privilege Escalation. Assessment: Active exploitation is not confirmed by the available evidence. Prioritization must combine technical severity, exposure, asset criticality, and compensating controls.

Exposure and Remediation Decisions
P0 — Inventory: Confirm the affected product and version against authoritative vendor/NVD data; prioritize internet-facing and business-critical assets.
P0 — Remediation: Availability not established in the source record — verify vendor guidance
P1 — Compensating controls: Restrict exposure, enforce least privilege, and apply vendor-supported mitigations when immediate remediation is not possible.
P1 — Retrospective review: Search only the telemetry relevant to the affected component and validated vulnerability class; absence of alerts does not prove absence of exploitation.

MITRE ATT&CK Mapping
Privilege Escalation → Exploitation for Privilege Escalation (T1068), conditional on observed elevation.
Mappings are conditional analytical aids, not claims that the technique occurred. Promote a mapping to observed only after telemetry confirms the behavior.
Detection Engineering
DETECTION STATUS: TELEMETRY_SPECIFICATION_ONLY

Privilege-escalation behavior requires product- and platform-specific event semantics not present in the source record.

Monitor privilege/token changes, setuid or service-account transitions, and privileged child processes tied to the affected product.
Correlate elevation events with the exact vulnerable process and version after exposure is confirmed.
